This was a Nokia Xpress Commercial that I worked on for the Finnish market. I worked on several models of phones, and was incharge of file format translation, texturing, lighting, animation, and rendering.
Rendering
I rendered several passes including beauty, alpha, x-depth, velocity, diffuse, output and atmosphere to all be compositied in After Effects. I wasnt part of the compositing process. I rendered double the amount of frames per second so the compositers could speed up or slow down the animation without loss of quailty.
Lighting
I managed to light this with a partially diffuse HDR image that I built out of different lighting scrims that I've been hoarding over the years. Who says hoarding isn't healthy? I got a flicker free result after diffusing the environmental HDR enough, but not enough to lose the environmental highlights and definition. I added a few bounces, four near white and three near black.
Here is a few steps in the animation as the phone spins and closes. I removed a few of the passes for this quick render.
